When You Pray

Day 16

As I've written about previously in this series, many people traditionally view Lent as a time to "give something up". Unfortunately, these attempts to reduce or abstain from things often devolve into two pitfalls: either self-righteousness or guilt.

But, as I shared about on Day 13 and Day 11, that's not the purpose of Lent!

Instead, every year during the Lent season, we’re offered a beautiful opportunity to “…throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles” (Hebrews 12: 11). The fasting or abstaining from something is intended to remind us that He is able to supply our needs. He is able to cleanse, renew, and show us the way to eternal life. The focus of Lent is not intended to be our sacrifice, but His, and our response to that.

One of the ways to do this is to focus on prayer during these 40 days.

Praying through the Lenten season allows us to draw closer in our relationship with God and in remembrance of what He has done for us.

If you've been struggling to make time with God the priority it should be lately, the 40 days of Lent is a powerful time to get back on track, by making prayer a priority each day.
