Power and Strength

This is day 36 of our journey to Easter. Thanks for joining me.

Day 36

Do you ever feel powerless? Lacking in guidance? Wishing you had a clear sense of purpose? Our Bible reading today is Romans 8: 12 - 17, where Paul talks about how we can truly be led by the Lord ...

So then, brothers, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh, 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 All those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, 17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—seeing that we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

The Scripture is clear: if we want to hear God calling us, and if we want to show His love to those around us, we need the Spirit of the Lord to guide us.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8: 14)

One of the major roles of the Holy Spirit in the life of every Believer is to guide us and teach us what to do. John 16: 13 says, “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.”

At first, through the Holy Spirit, we get our vision or purpose, as well as our unique gifting, from God - then to follow it, we still need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to face any challenges that may come our way, and He guides us as to the way we should go. Acts 1: 8a says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”

Following Him empowers us to withstand the threats and deceptions of the enemy, who would lure us into following His "easier" pathways.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, nothing is hidden away from Him – when we accept Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit indwells us, our eyes are opened to the truths of the Word that will direct our steps in discovering the joy of walking closely with the Lord. The world would have us believe that life is meaningless and that everyone has to make their own way through the maze of existence. But in truth, there is a way to know where to go and what to do with our lives - and we discover it by listening to and obeying the leading of the Holy Spirit, and allowing Him to guide me and order our steps.
