Thank you for joining me here, on Day 7 of this Advent blogging series.
Today’s passage of Scripture is Isaiah 9: 6 - 7 ...
"For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this."
We often visualise the birth of Jesus as a tender, sentimental moment ... the beautiful Mary gently holding her newborn baby, while Joseph and the farm creatures gaze upon them adoring while soft moonlight casts a glow over the entire scene ...
While I'm sure it was an exquisite moment - as the births of babies always are - getting this scene stuck in our minds diminishes the explosiveness of this moment in history!!
This was no ordinary baby. This was the birth of Jesus, the Ruler whose reign over the entire world would be eternal. This was the arrival of Mighty God - in human form, yes, but no less able to display His power and authority. This was the opening move in the strategic plan of the Prince of Peace, setting in motion His invasion of earth, which would secure the redemption and salvation of humankind.
"The Wonderful, Eternal, Almighty God of Peace – the second Person of the Truine Godhead, set aside His glory to take on the form of a man and be BORN into the race that He created…. as the Son of Man. He was GIVEN by the Father as a gift of grace from God to a lost world, so that all who believe on His name of the Son of God could be saved. The Lord Jesus Christ is that Child that was Born and He is that Son that was Given.
